Having watched MTV’s ‘Laguna Beach’ when I was younger, I was excited about the prospect of visiting the famed OC. We stayed at the Pacific Edge hotel which was located directly on the beach with rooms only steps from the sand. We stayed in the ‘Reef Tower’ where rooms had balconies facing out towards the sea, where you could lie in bed at night and hear the sound of the waves against the shore or watch the picturesque sun set behind the sea.
Laguna is a very artistic place and the main street was filled with art galleries, exhibitions and colourful banners. It’s also an extremely affluent place and the sprawling ocean front and hill-top homes behind gated walls are testament to this. The beaches are full of laid back surfers and you can easily spot the people that have grown up in this amazing place.
We had three nights here which was a great amount of time to combine exploring with relaxing on the beach. Sit long enough on the sand and you can even spot dolphins jumping in the waves close to the shore as we did one afternoon.
