It was an amazingly sunny day for a Bank Holiday Monday, so we decided to make the most of it and head off to the beach. We originally set off for Formby but after being stuck in a huge queue of traffic before even getting anywhere near the carpark, we decided to turn around and try the alternative signs for ‘Lifeboat Beach’ instead.
So glad that we did as it was amazing and much quieter! About an hour’s drive from Manchester, Lifeboat Road is not far from the centre of Formby and just down the coast from the more publicised Formby Beach.
The carpark is surrounded by woodland and there are signposted walks to take through the forest of beautiful trees. We started off this way and came across the ‘Lifeboat Tea Room’ which was being held in a small church hall in the middle of the woods. We sat outside whilst enjoying the sunshine and eating a Danish Pastry!
The beach is about a 5 minute walk from the carpark and you are surrounded by huge sand dunes as you walk along which really makes you feel like you could easily be on holiday somewhere more exotic. The beach itself was beautiful, sandy and stretched for miles – we could have easily stayed here for most of the day.
We’ve visited quite a lot of the beaches in the Northwest but this is now one of my favourites. Oh and its the only beach I’ve seen with an outdoor gym on-site! (picture below)
