Plymouth is one of my favourite places in the world. My Grandparents are from Plymouth and having spent many holidays there it has always been such a special place for me (plus I went to University there!)
As my Grandma was turning 80 this year we decided to try and do something a bit different and get everyone together to celebrate. Instead of us all staying in separate hotels, we thought it would be a good idea to see if we could find a self-catering house/apartment for us all to stay together. After a quick look online I came across Telhaven and we realised that we’d actually driven past it before and remarked on how amazing it had looked.
Telhaven : Telhaven is an absolutely stunning house located right on the coast at Wembury Point, about a 20minute drive from Plymouth city centre. As a self catering property, it is one of the nicest and most memorable places that I have ever stayed. You can book the entire property as we did or their website details that you can book per room.
The first thing you notice as you walk through the door is the amazing sea view which is the focal point of the design. Nearly all of the rooms have seaviews and you spend a great deal of your time staring out at the landscape.
With 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, the house is listed as sleeping 12 people – (an extra futon bed is provided for use in one of the rooms if you have more than 10 guests.) The downstairs bedrooms open up onto the garden where you can sit out and enjoy the view.
It was such a nice surprise after such a long drive to get there and find that Sam (the owner) had left us a complimentary bottle of prosecco, a bottle of wine and had also put up a birthday banner and written my Grandma a birthday card! Very impressed!
The house is very modern and has been fitted out with all the latest gadgets and technology. The Sonos sound system was one of our favourite things and with so much music available there was something for everyone. There is also a ‘games room’ downstairs which features a sound system, TV and pool table plus cupboards of books, and a chess/draughts set. This was really useful as something to do in the evening before we went out and kept us all busy whilst waiting for everyone to get ready.
Things to do:
- Friday: We arrived at Telhaven about 5pm and after looking around the house we all sat down together at the large dining table to eat dinner. We then all sat in the living room and chatted/caught up and watched TV.
- Saturday : We all ate breakfast together around 9am (a couple of people had already been for a morning walk along the coast by this time!) We then spent the rest of the day exploring the local beaches which are a short drive away. We started off at Wembury where after exploring along the beach, we sat in the cafe for a drink. We then drove over to Bovisand where we had lunch in the Bovisand Cafe (again, the view from here is amazing and you can eat looking directly out to sea.)
- Saturday Night: We spent the evening in Plymouth and ate dinner at Rockfish. If you ever visit Plymouth you need to eat at Rockfish! From traditional fish and chips to crab rolls and seafood platters – the food is amazing and you can sit and eat overlooking the boats in the harbour. We also tried the desserts too which did not disappoint!
Would I recommend staying here? Yes 100%. If you are looking for somewhere different with ‘wow factor’ Telhaven is the place. The owners are really helpful and provided us with lots of information beforehand which helped us plan our stay. Everything about Telhaven is impressive and we came away having thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and looking forward to our next visit!
